Mushfiqur Rahim Scores Century in His 100th Test, Joins One of Cricket’s Rarest Clubs
Dhaka, Nov 19 (The Deccan Times): Bangladesh veteran Mushfiqur Rahim has etched his name into cricketing history by scoring a century in his 100th Test match, becoming the first Bangladeshi ever to reach the landmark and only the 12th player globally to celebrate the milestone with a hundred.
Rahim struck a determined 106 off 214 balls against Ireland in the second Test in Dhaka, guiding Bangladesh into a dominant position. With this achievement, he joins the elite company of Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge, and Graeme Smith, all of whom reached three figures in their 100th Test.
An exclusive club of Test greats
Of the 12 players to achieve this rare distinction, Ricky Ponting remains unmatched, having smashed centuries in both innings of his 100th Test against South Africa in 2006. The most recent cricketers to join the list before Rahim were Joe Root (2021) and David Warner (2022).
Rahim ended Day 1 on 99 not out after Bangladesh chose to bat first and finished the day at 292 for 4. The 38-year-old completed his 13th Test century early on Day 2, an innings featuring five boundaries and showcasing his trademark resilience.
Bangladesh dominate thanks to crucial partnerships
Rahim formed a vital 108-run partnership with Litton Das, pushing Bangladesh well beyond Ireland’s reach. Litton played a commanding innings of 128, while Mominul Haque added a crucial half-century as Bangladesh posted a strong 476 in their first innings.
Among the Irish bowlers, Andy McBrine impressed with a six-wicket haul, finishing with 6 for 109, while Matthews Humphreys and Gavin Hoey picked up two wickets each.
Bangladesh eye series sweep
The hosts entered the Dhaka Test with a 1–0 lead, following their innings-and-47-run victory in the first Test in Sylhet. With Rahim’s milestone knock and Bangladesh’s commanding total, they look firmly set to complete a series sweep over Ireland.
