Global Outage Hits X Users as Cloudflare Services Disrupt Internet Platforms Worldwide
New Delhi, Nov 18 (The Deccan Times): Thousands of users of X (formerly Twitter) were hit by a major service disruption on Tuesday, as a widespread outage linked to Cloudflare, a key internet infrastructure provider, affected multiple websites across India and around the world.
The issues began around 5:20 pm, with more than 10,000 users reporting problems, according to outage-tracking website Down Detector. The platform showed a surge in complaints related to the feed not loading, login failures, website errors, and server connection issues.
Cloudflare confirms widespread issue
In its initial response, Cloudflare said it was aware of the problem and was investigating.
“We are aware of, and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers,” the company said. It did not specify the cause or provide a timeline for restoration.
While some X pages loaded after repeated refresh attempts, many users continued to face the message:
“Internal server error on Cloudflare’s network.”
Ironically, Down Detector — which depends on Cloudflare for its own operations — also struggled to load, making it harder for users to track the full scale of the outage.
Not the first outage for X this year
X previously suffered a global outage in May, affecting users in India and several other countries. During that incident, people were unable to load new posts or log in.
At that time, Down Detector data showed:
- 41% of users faced login issues
- 41% experienced problems with the X app
- 18% reported website errors
The platform did not disclose the reason behind that outage either, which had occurred within 24 hours of a previous disruption.
Thousands affected across India and globally
On Tuesday, several users in India were unable to access X both on the website and the mobile app. Down Detector recorded over 5,000 complaints globally, though the actual number is believed to be far higher given the scale of the Cloudflare-linked disruption.
As Cloudflare continues investigating, services are expected to resume gradually, though no official fix time has been announced.
